The Illinois Legislative Furniture Commission, composed of Secretary of State and two members each from House and Senate, was created in 1909 by joint resolution of General Assembly. Furniture of General Assembly was found to be old, inadequate and uncomfortable and Commission was charged with acquiring new furniture and making such other improvements to House and Senate chambers that were deemed necessary (l. 1909, p. 484).
